Falls Church Housing Corporation (FCHC) was born in the early 1980s when community leaders, trying to help a single mother remain in Falls Church, were struck by the absence of adequate housing options in the City. Inspired to take action, our founders became dedicated to creating and preserving further housing choices and resources for people who could not otherwise afford to live, continue to live, or retire here. In 1981, the Falls Church Housing Corporation was established as a non-profit, tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) corporation operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

FCHC's first major project was in direct response to condominium conversions in the Winter Hill neighborhood that threatened to displace a large number of elderly renters on fixed incomes. The FCHC team successfully purchased the eight Winter Hill properties, 82 apartments in all, renovated them and obtained Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments for their elderly, handicapped and disabled residents.

Since then, FCHC has acquired and rehabilitated another eight rental units located in Falls Church's nearby Virginia Village area. Rents are made affordable to families who earn 40 percent of the area's median income.
