HAND envisions a future where Black and brown communities share equitably in the knowledge, wealth and resources uniquely represented in and between Baltimore, Washington, and Richmond. Despite continued economic growth, the rise of inequality persists – with compounded inequities impacting communities of color, challenging their humanity and opportunity to realize their full potential. HAND remains committed to catalyzing research and bold solutions that realize the promise of a region where ALL can thrive.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

HOUSING INDICATOR TOOL
Regional Problems Require Regional Solutions

Systemic racism, the uneven effects of COVID-19, and the shortage of affordable housing paints a portrait of the Capital Region’s housing affordability challenge. An all-hands-on-deck approach is required to deliver solutions that can solve for this challenge, and we must be equipped with the knowledge of where we stand in each jurisdiction to effectively meet the needs for housing supply and a more equitable region. The Housing Indicator Tool holds all of us accountable to addressing housing affordability with information on regional housing production and a comparison with established local housing targets.

HAND’S HEALTH & RETIREMENT BENEFIT PACKAGES

One major area where health inequities still exist in the workplace is in employer-sponsored health benefits plan design. Traditional insurance plans frequently create barriers to care and can exacerbate inequities in healthcare by inhibiting the use of services. HAND is pleased to partner with The Center for Nonprofit Advancement, VitalHealth, and Nonstop Wellness to support HAND members committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion with an opportunity to reevaluate their employees benefits package.
