Arlington’s vPoint, the 116-unit mixed-income, mixed-use community was awarded the 2012 Virginia Best Housing Development Award at the Governor’s Housing Conference in Roanoke, Virginia, on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
This Class-A, LEED Gold Certified apartment community, located one-block from the Clarendon Metro station, contains 70 affordable apartment homes, 46 market-rate units and 120 underground parking spaces. The affordable units house individuals and families with incomes up to $35,000 to $50,000 per year and include a mix of efficiencies, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. Six affordable units are 100 percent accessible for persons with disabilities or special needs. This project’s success is evidenced by the nine-year journey to overcome neighborhood resistance and financial challenges to see affordable housing brought to a high-cost community in need of housing for all incomes.
2nd Street Community Partners, a joint-venture between Ward 5 real estate developers The Menkiti Group and Dantes Partners, announced construction will begin on Metropolitan Overlook – a sleek, modern residential condominium community in the Eckington neighborhood. The project is a rehabilitation of an existing 37-unit apartment building that has stood vacant for more than two decades.
The Long Branch Business League and Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) are initiating a series of events, called Discover Long Branch! The events offer both spectacle and specials to introduce residents to the range of shopping, food, and culture that the neighborhood has to offer. At each Discover Long Branch! event, beginning in December, customers will get the chance to personally meet the business owner, enjoy special discounts and be entertained by innovative arts and music in the eclectic neighborhood whose Silver Spring-Takoma Park boundaries include Piney Branch Road between Flower Avenue and New Hampshire Avenue.
The first Discover Long Branch! event will be held at El Golfo Restaurant on December 3, hosted by owner Ada Villatoro. The second event will be a two-day 50 percent off sale at the Community Thrift Store, December 14-15 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.
